Crenshaw Crossing Project: Transforming Communities with Housing and Commercial Space

The Crenshaw Crossing project is set to bring new housing and commercial space to the vibrant neighborhood surrounding Metro's Expo/Crenshaw Station. This exciting development, spearheaded by a partnership between Watt Companies, West Angeles Community Development Corp., and Richman Group, aims to revitalize the area and provide much-needed amenities to the community. With construction anticipated to begin next year, the project is on track to become a transformative addition to the neighborhood.

A Promising Vision for the Crenshaw Crossing

The Crenshaw Crossing project will be situated on a Metro and Los Angeles County-owned site at the southeast and southwest corners of Exposition and Crenshaw Boulevards. This prime location places the development above the K Line's northern terminus and directly south of the E Line's at-grade platforms. The project will consist of two eight-story buildings, offering a total of 401 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments. Additionally, the development will feature a spacious grocery store spanning approximately 22,000 square feet and 15,000 square feet of general retail space at street level. To accommodate residents and visitors, the project will provide parking for 502 vehicles.

Collaborative Design for a Modern and Functional Space

To bring the Crenshaw Crossing project to life, a talented design team has been assembled. Led by SVA Architects, the team also includes BA Collective and Relm. Together, they have envisioned a contemporary aesthetic for the development, with an exterior adorned in painted cement plaster. Renderings showcase a sleek and inviting space, complete with a new pedestrian promenade and a pedestrian plaza adjacent to the K Line station's entrance. Commercial spaces will line Crenshaw and Exposition Boulevards, while townhouse-style units will face Victoria Avenue to the west.

A Commitment to Affordability and Community Enhancement

The Crenshaw Crossing project has received a significant boost through funding from the California Strategic Growth Council's Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities program. With a generous $49.9 million allocation, the project aims to incorporate 176 affordable housing units, ensuring that a range of income levels can benefit from this exciting development. The funding will also support the construction of essential amenities such as a fitness center, outdoor spaces, and the implementation of 10 miles of new bike lanes. Furthermore, crosswalk repairs and sidewalk improvements will enhance the pedestrian experience within the neighborhood.

Transforming Transit Sites into Thriving Communities

As the Crenshaw Crossing project takes shape, it is just one of several exciting developments in the works along the K Line corridor. Another notable project is the proposed District Square, a 577-unit apartment complex planned for a vacant lot south of Expo/Crenshaw Station. Additionally, the area near Leimert Park Station is experiencing a wave of development, with several mixed-use projects taking shape. The Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza mall near Martin Luther King Jr. Station is also undergoing plans for 636 homes, spearheaded by Harridge Development Group. Together, these projects will transform transit sites into thriving communities, offering residents a vibrant and connected lifestyle.
