Good morning. The message of the week is Protection. In the words of the great Jim Rohn, “Everything you build you must protect. I don’t like it, but that’s the rules. Think about it… you build a great relationship - somebody is coming after your partner. You plant an amazing garden - the buzzards are coming to eat the crops. This is the way of life.”

Nothing hits better in the summertime than stopping at your favorite fish market with your family for a combination plate. Red snapper, catfish, filet of sole, oysters and shrimp are all part of the LA experience like no other. The only trouble is, which fried fish spots are actually the best in town? And which ones are worth going to? My personal favorite is James Fish Market on El Segundo, but we’ve got the top 5 spots for you right here;
Big Fish
This Inglewood gem takes the number one spot, simply because health is wealth and we always advocate for healthy options. You can get your fish grilled or fried here over garlic butter white rice, red beans and rice, or even more! Since 1988, Big Fish has been serving the city in a standout way, becoming a huge staple and a favorite among residents.
World Seafood
World seafood is almost like an LA landmark. You can’t miss it. When you’re driving down Florence, who can resist that big welcoming sign? Although the former management retired in 2021, that doesn’t stop the legacy of this amazing seafood spot. Their Hawaiian rolls are always worth the trip back, and with more than 25 years in the game, their recipes have definitely proved they’re here to stay for generations to come.
Happy Fish
People can’t stop talking about Happy Fish. This place is one of the most recommended when it comes down to it. Located on Manchester and Harvard, it seems as if Inglewood is taking over this list. Although some say it was better a few years ago than it is now, Happy Fish is undoubtedly one of the most solid places you can go to get your classic fried fish plate with fries and a roll.

Tesla Charging the city up. Two things we love; vibes and a good dining experience! The "Tesla Diner & Supercharged Cinema,” project has received approval in LA and is expected to be located near SpaceX's headquarters in Santa Monica,CA. It’s said they’ll be combining dining, entertainment, and sustainability by incorporating solar canopies and EV charging stations, with a commitment to promoting clean energy. Though certain approvals and construction are still needed, LA can expect a new luxury experience to look forward to.
Biden Goes High for Marijuana. For years the relationship between the U.S. and marijuana has been an uphill battle for justice and legalization. Now Biden leads the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to request that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) initiate a review of marijuana's classification under federal law. This means its current classification as a Schedule I controlled substance will be “downgraded” to Schedule III. Currently, marijuana is categorized as a Schedule I controlled substance, placing it in the same category of danger as drugs like heroin. Crazy enough it’s ranked higher than fentanyl that actually kills more than 150 people a day! The reclassification will reduce restrictions in medical research and financial support for legalized medical and recreational use.
The real question is what does this mean for those that have been effected unjustly by these laws now that it’s growing in legal monetization? Are we finally taking step towards federal cannabis reform and reevaluating cases or is this a new opportunity for the government to capitalize on what so many are still serving time for?
LA County Regulates Residential RV’s. The popularity of RVs, van living and tiny houses on wheels has rapidly increased; unsurprisingly due to the gap between wage and affordability in the cost of living in LA. Now the city is considering a complete ban on living in vehicles, including RVs and campers, in residential areas between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. without permits to do so. They claim to be concerned with the homelessness impact on neighborhoods safety and sanitation but some debate that though maintaining community curb appeal and safety is important they’re unfairly targeting homeless individuals without other at least offering resolutions; and I agree. No decisions have been finalized but the city council is expected to continue discussing their decision.

SOMEONE YOU SHOULD KNOW
Poetry & Spoken Word
In the world of Los Angeles poetry, a familiar name has been trailblazing all across social media for years; Reyna Biddy.
Starting off originally as a songwriter, Biddy’s longing for a more personal connection to her work drove her to push school aside and become an author to explore poetry as a profession. Now with four published books, and a wide variety of supporters, Biddy is a mother and extremely well-renowned. Reyna grew up in the Valley with her mom who was a nurse, and her father who was an artist. One of the sources of inspiration for her writing journey stemmed from watching Def Jam Poetry with her dad. This love for poetry has not only led to the purchase of her own home in Woodland Hills, but also a feature on Kehlani’s album ‘SweetSexySavage.’ However, her story is not all glamor and book sales on Amazon’s best seller list. Biddy’s raw emotions and deep truths live in between the pages of her vulnerable books. There is so much more to this writer than a twitter icon of a famous side profile and the handle @DearYouFromWe.
