That abandoned high-rise in DTLA that's been covered floor-to-floor in graffiti is finally getting addressed — the city has set a 90-day timeline to clean it up. The building became a viral landmark of sorts, with writers tagging nearly every balcony of the unfinished tower. Love it or hate it, it's about to be gone.
Long, dangerous heat wave headed to Los Angeles this week
The National Weather Service is warning LA residents of a prolonged and dangerous heat wave moving through the region, with inland areas expected to hit well over 100 degrees. Coastal communities will get some relief, but neighborhoods like Woodland Hills and Lancaster are looking at extreme temperatures. Stay hydrated, check on your people, and find your nearest cooling center.

A serious push to get hospitality and tourism workers on a path toward $30 an hour. And BIG:LEAP — if you haven't heard of it, look it up. Largest Guaranteed Basic Income program in the country. $1,000 a month to 3,200 families right here in LA. No gimmicks.
A lot of that was pushed through by the council member running District 9 — Curren Price — who is now transitioning out.
The district is entering a new chapter and it's worth knowing what the last one actually looked like before we start talking about what comes next.
