Santa Monica To Pay Family For Unlawful Land Seizure

Santa Monica will pay a whopping $350,000 to the descendants of Silas White, a Black entrepreneur whose land was seized in the 1950s to build the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. The settlement includes renaming a street after White and creating an exhibit in his honor.

Protestors Block Road To LAX On Thanksgiving

LAPD officers in riot gear move in after more than a hundred protesters block Century Blvd. near LAX on the busiest travel day of the year. Frustrated fliers can be seen stuck in traffic as the activists representing culinary workers from UNITE HERE Local 11 block traffic. The protesters are demanding safer working conditions.

In July 2022, Los Angeles County officially returned Bruce's Beach — a beachfront property confiscated from a Black family (Will and Charles Bruce) through eminent domain in the 1920s under racially motivated pretenses — to the descendants of the original owners in a historic act of restitution for racial injustice.
